Nomadic Whispers

An intimate, interactive performance installation at Abbostfor Convent.

I created Nomadic Whispers as a mysterious, cozy, and quietly joyful space—a kind of dream-home I carry with me. Built upon a rug from my hometown of Tabriz, this installation takes the shape of a transparent tent adorned with delicate white origami lilies. Inside, I arranged cherished objects: family photos, letters, sketchbooks, painting tools, even a pillow—items that hold memory and meaning. Visitors are invited to step inside, move freely, and explore this intimate, nomadic space.

Throughout the day, I sat on the rug, inviting others to join me in creating a story. Before the performance, I had written a story in four languages—Farsi, Turkish, Azeri, and English—and carefully cut the text into single words. These words were printed on small cards. Participants selected them blindly, and together, we pieced new stories—fragments of language forming something entirely our own. These co-written stories were then gently attached to the origami lilies, allowing them to grow into the tent’s structure.

I wore a full-body suit in black, covering my face and body completely. In this anonymity, I became “nobody”—a blank page, a ghost in the house of memory. At the end of the performance, I returned to share the original story I had written—one last layer added to this collaborative constellation of words, symbols, and belonging.
